The obverse of the coin depicts the orbit of an artificial satellite over part of the globe, against which the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the four-line inscriptions are placed: 2004, UKRAINE, 5 griven and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the reverse of the coin are the sickle of the month (left) and the spacecraft, at the top in a semicircle are the inscriptions of the PIVDENNE design office, below in two lines - 50 YEARS.

Devoted to the design office `Pivdenne`, which was founded on April 10, 1954 in the city. Dnepropetrovsk. About 70 types of spacecraft developed by Pivdenne Design Bureau gave an opportunity to successfully conduct space research in the framework of both national and international projects promoting the development of science and the national economy. Today, one of the priorities of this bureau is the implementation of the National Space Program of Ukraine, according to which the launch of the Sich-1M multifunctional spacecraft is scheduled for 2004.
