In the center, against the background of the old starry sky map, there is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine. In a circle at the top is the inscription “UKRAINE”, at the bottom in two lines “2 hryvnia”. On the right is the date 1997 - the year of coinage. All inscriptions are separated from each other by stylized images of stars.

The portrait of the scientist is depicted and the so-called “Kondratyuk’s route” to his left is a diagram of the spacecraft’s flight to the Moon, its landing on the lunar surface and returning to Earth. Above the portrait of Yu. Kondratyuk and to his left are the stylized images of stars, below the portrait are the dates of 1897-1942 - the years of the birth of the scientist and his death on the front near Moscow. In the circle of the inscription coin: at the top “YURII KONDRTYUK”, at the bottom in brackets “OLEKSANDR Shargey”.

The coin is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Ukrainian scientist in the field of cosmonautics and wind power, one of the pioneers of rocket technology and the theory of space flight, Yuriy Vasilyevich Kondratyuk (Alexander Ignatievich Shargey).
