A small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions in four lines are placed on the obverse of the coins in the frame of a wreath formed from images of certain types of flora and fauna: on a silver coin - UKRAINE, 10 griven, 2002, and the designation of the metal and its sample - Ag 925, clean weight - 31.1, on a nickel silver coin - UKRAINE, 2, hryvnia, 2002 and on both coins - the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
It is dedicated to the settled-nomadic bird - the owl (Bubo bubo) - the only species of this genus in the fauna of Ukraine, the predominant part of the population of which is concentrated mainly in the western regions of the country.
