An allegorical scene of the opening of the Olympiad Games is depicted on the obverse of the coin in a square: two female figures in tunics hold a bowl with fire in their hands and laurel branches - a symbol of peace. The small State Emblem of Ukraine (above) and the inscriptions are depicted around the square: UKRAINE (above), 2 hryvnias (below), 2003 (two figures of the year are marked on the left, two on the right), and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin in the square is a boxer in a helmet. The following inscriptions are placed around the square: GAMES / XXVIII OLYMPIADS (top), OLYMPIC GAMES, XXVIII (bottom), ATHENS 2004 (left), ATHENS 2004 (right).
