On the obverse of the coin there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription: UKRAINE / 2 / HRIVNY / 2018 and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The reverse of the coin depicts the Dnipro martin against the background of algae and pebbles (color image, used pad printing) and the inscriptions in a semicircle: MARENA DNIPROVSKAYA (above), BARBUS BORYSTHENICUS (below).

It is dedicated to a freshwater schooling bottom fish of the carp family - Maren Dneprovskaya, an endangered species, endemics of the basins of the Dnieper and the Southern Bug, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List.
