On the obverse of the coins in the frame of a wreath, formed from images of certain types of flora and fauna, there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions in four lines: UKRAINE, 2, hryvnia, 2002 and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine

On the reverse of coins there is an owl on an oak branch, around - circular inscriptions: PUGACH and BUBO BUBO.

It is dedicated to the settled-nomadic bird - the owl (Bubo bubo) - the only species of this genus in the fauna of Ukraine, the predominant part of the population of which is concentrated mainly in the western regions of the country.
