Опис
The Sakagawea Dollar is one of two types of coins in circulation in US $ 1 (the second is the Presidential Dollar), which refer to so-called golden dollars, because they are not gold but imitate the color of gold. The coin was first struck in 2000. On the obverse is a holding child of Sakagawaya (Sakajwayya), a woman from the Shoshone tribe, who helped the expeditions of Lewis and Clark. Artist Glenna Goodacre (English Glenna Goodacre) used as a model 22-year-old Shoshon girl named Randy'L He-dow Teton, a student of the Institute of American Indian Art. The reverse of the coin has several basic types of design: Coins are made of copper and covered with manganese brass, which gives it a golden hue. Unlike most US coins in circulation, such a coating is quite heavily patinated and as a result can completely lose its golden color. At the same time, it is this feature of the coins that gives them an "antique shade", and images of Sakagawae with the child - volume and expressiveness.
