On the obverse of the coin in the center of the stylized circle there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine, as well as a cruciform image of embroidered towels, between which are portraits of prominent figures from different periods of our history with inscriptions: Yaroslav the Wise, Taras Shevchenko, Mikhail Hrushevsky, BOGDAN KHMELNYTSKY; at the bottom on the background of the towel - the year of coinage 2011, in a circle there are inscriptions: NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE (above) and denomination (below) - FIVE CHRYVEN. At the bottom of the circle is the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin there is a stylized wreath of fruits and leaves of viburnum, in the center of which is the inscription: 20 YEARS / INDEPENDENCE / UKRAINE / August 24/1991
