The obverse of the coin depicts one of the symbols of the city - an openwork lantern (right), a fragment of a stylized ornament (left) that adorns the roof of Chernivtsi University, and also at the top is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription: NATIONAL / BANK / UKRAINE / 5 / GREEN / 2008 and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The reverse of the coin shows a composition of the outstanding historical and architectural monuments of the city, above which is the emblem of the city and the inscription CHERNOVTSY, at the bottom - 600 / years.

Dedicated to the administrative, economic and cultural center, one of the picturesque cities of Ukraine - Chernivtsi, located on both banks of the Prut River in the foothills of the Carpathians.
