On the obverse of the coin in the center of a circle formed from dots there is an image of a small State Emblem of Ukraine framed in branches of viburnum. Above the emblem is the date of one thousand nine hundred ninety-six - the year of minting of the coin. In the circle of the inscription: at the top of UKRAINE, at the bottom in three lines 1 MILLION RUBLES. To the left and to the right of the digit 1 there is a designation and a sample of the precious metal Ag 925 and its weight in purity is 15.55.

On the reverse of the coin in the center is a portrait of the outstanding Ukrainian enlightener, philosopher, poet of the XVIII century Gregory Savvich Skovoroda. To the left of the portrait reproduced an imprint of a personal seal G. Skovoroda. In the circle of the inscription coin: on the left GRIGORY of the SKOLORODA, on the right 1722-1794 - the years of birth and death of G. Skovoroda
