The obverse of the coin depicts a steam locomotive (as a symbol of progress at the end of the 19th century) Against the background of stylized outlines of waste heaps, a blast furnace and an open-hearth shop; there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine (left), a circular inscription NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE (above), under it - the year of coinage of the coin 2005, below - 2 grivni and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin, a portrait of Alexei Alchevsky is depicted, under him in a semicircle are inscriptions of one thousand eight hundred and thirty-five ALEXEY ALCHEVSKY +1901.
Dedicated to the 170th anniversary of Alexey Kirillovich Alchevsky (1835 - 1901) - Ukrainian industrialist and banker, founder of a number of banks and industrial enterprises, in particular, the first commercial loan in Kharkiv and the second commercial bank in Russia, called Kharkiv Trade Bank, Russia's first Land Bank, one of the founders of the Agricultural T7 partner. On his initiative, the two largest metallurgical plants are being built (now it is OJSC Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works and OJSC Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich).
