On the obverse of the coin there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine, above which is the year of minting of the coin 2005, under it are 2 hryvnias, inscriptions in a circle of UKRAINE (above), NATIONAL BANK (below) and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine (right).

The reverse of the coin depicts a portrait of Dmitry Yavornytsky, on the right - years of life 1855/1940 and on the sides - inscriptions in a semicircle of Dmitry Yavornytsky.

A man of extremely diverse interests - Dmitry Yavornitsky devoted almost his entire life to studying the history of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, whose crown was the `History of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks' in three volumes.
