The obverse shows two crossed cannons, above which is placed the small State Emblem of Ukraine, the year of minting of the coin 2004 and semicircular inscriptions: UKRAINE (above) 5 / griven (below), and also the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The reverse of the coin shows the panorama of the city, against which dates are placed - 1754 - 2004, the emblem of the city and the inscription KIROVOGRAD in a semicircle at the top.

Dedicated to the regional center - the city of Kirovograd (until 1934 - Elisavetgrad), the emergence of which is associated with the formation in 1754 of the fortress of Sv. Elisabeth, built on the former lands of Zaporizhzhya Sich to protect the southern borders of Ukraine from the predatory attacks of the Turks and the Crimean Tatars.
