An allegorical scene of the opening of the Olympic Games is depicted on the obverse of the coin in the square: two female figures in tunics hold a bowl with fire and laurel branches - a symbol of peace. The small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscriptions are depicted around the square: on a silver coin - UKRAINE (top), 10 griven (bottom), 2002 (left), the metal and its sample designation Ag 925, weight in purity - 31.1 (right) and logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin in the square is placed the frontal image of a swimmer against the background of water. The following inscriptions around the square: PLAYS / XXVIII OLYMPIADS (top), OLYMPIC GAMES, XXVIII (bottom), ATHENS 2004 (left), ATHENS 2004 (right).
