An allegorical scene of the opening of the Olympic Games is depicted on the obverse of the coin in the square: two female figures in tunics hold a bowl with fire and laurel branches - a symbol of peace. Around the square is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: UKRAINE (above), 2 hryvnia (below), 20-02 and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin in the square are placed the frontal image of a swimmer against the background of water. There are such inscriptions around the square: PLAYS / XXVIII OLYMPIADS (top), OLYMPIC GAMES, XXVIII (bottom), ATHENS 2004 (left), ATHENS 2004 (right).
