The obverse of the coin on the mirror background at the top of the semicircle contains the inscription NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE, under which is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, depicts a stylized composition symbolizing the path to independence, below the inscription: 2008/2 GRIVNI and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The reverse of the coin depicts a portrait of Vasily Stus against the background of a stylized mosaic by Alla Gorska `Woman-Ptah ', to the right of which is the semicircle of Vasily Stus.
