Reverse
Maya Angelou is depicted with her hands raised. Behind her is a flying bird and the rising sun, images inspired by her poetry and symbolizing her lifestyle. The silhouette of the bird depicts a Purple Martin, a common bird for the place where the poet Angelou was born. Inscriptions: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "QUARTER DOLLAR", "MAYA ANGELOU" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The initials of the designer and the sculptor of the reverse are also indicated here.

Maya Angelou is an American writer. The book "I Know why a bird sings in a cage", a chronicle of her life up to the age of 16, brought her worldwide fame. Angelou's books focus on racism, personality, family, and travel. Angelou has received more than 30 honorary degrees and has been inducted into the Wake Forest University Writers Hall of Fame. In 2010, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Maya Angelou was also the recipient of the 2013 National Literary Award for her contribution to the literary community.
