Solovetsky (Preobrazhensky) Monastery, located on the Great Solovetsky Island in the White Sea, was founded by monks of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery Zosima and Savvaty in the 30s. XV century. and is surrounded by walls 8-11 m high, 4-6 m thick with seven gates and eight towers (16th century), made up of untreated boulders. The architectural ensemble of the monastery includes the Transfiguration Cathedral (1556-1564), the Church of the Annunciation (1596-1601), the refectory with the Assumption Cathedral (1552-1557), the water mill, the belltower (1777), the Church of St. Nicholas (1834).
