The Russian Physical Culture and Sports Society Lokomotiv is a public association established for the development of physical culture and sports in railway transport, at enterprises of the transport and construction complex, metro enterprises, railway educational institutions and other enterprises related to the railway industry. The first message about the creation of the society appeared on November 3, 1935 on the pages of the newspaper Krasny Sport. It said that a single voluntary sports society of railway workers, the Locomotive, was being created in railway transport. Already on December 5, 1935, the charter of the new sports society was approved, and by order of the People's Commissariat of Railways, January 12, 1936, was declared the official birthday of the sports association "Locomotive". Every year, RFSO Lokomotiv holds at least 10 All-Russian competitions and 200 regional competitions throughout the country from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin, in which more than 15,000 railway athletes and their family members participate. Currently, seven clubs are operating under the Lokomotiv brand: the Lokomotiv Football Club (Moscow), the Lokomotiv hockey club (Yaroslavl), the Lokomotiv Kuban basketball club (Krasnodar), the Lokomotiv men's volleyball club (Novosibirsk), and the Lokomotiv Kaliningrad Region women's volleyball club (Kaliningrad), the Lokomotiv Beach soccer club (Moscow) and the Lokomotiv Penza rugby club (Penza).
