On the obverse of the coin there are: at the top - the small State Emblem of Ukraine, to the right of which there is an inscription in a semicircle - УКРАИНА; symbolic composition: against the background of a vertical matte stripe, which symbolizes the Dnieper, stylized buildings of the island of Khortytsya, the coat of arms of the city (on the right), the plan of the Alexander Fortress (on the left), which are like two river banks connected by a bridge, under which the inscriptions: 5 / ГРИВЕН / 2020 ; logo of the Banknote-Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (on the left on a mirrored background, under the plan of the fortress).

The reverse of the coin depicts a stylized composition combining the history and the present of the city against a mirrored background: against the background of the mirrored outline of the Cossack profile there is the Church of St. residential buildings, below there is a horizontal inscription ZAPOROZHYA, under which there is a dam of the Dnieper hydroelectric power station.

Dedicated to a city with a rich history, one of the largest administrative, industrial and cultural centers of the south of Ukraine, which uniquely combines nature, industrial giants, a variety of architecture, the name of which is associated with the famous Dnieper rapids. It is here that the island of Khortitsa is located, a unique natural complex, the historical and spiritual center of the Zaporozhye region.
