Obverse
On the obverse of the coin is placed the small State Emblem of Ukraine, to the right of which there is the inscription UKRAINE, under which the face value and year of coinage are 5 / ГРИВЕН / 2017; in the center of the stylized composition, sustained in the style of the Ukrainian avant-garde of the early twentieth century - soldiers in the uniform of various military formations of the times of the Ukrainian Revolution, one of which holds a flag on which the inscription is 1917; below - the logo of the Banknote-Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse
On the reverse of the coin, the flags of the first Ukrainian military formations are stylized, the main place among them is the flag of the First Ukrainian Cossack Regiment named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky, the historical flags of the Ukrainian State Navy, the Ukrainian Zaporozhye Regiment, formed in Moscow from warriors-Ukrainian like that; below is the flag of the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine and the inscriptions are placed: 100 / YEARS (bottom left) THE START OF THE FORMATION OF THE ARMED FORCES (left vertical) of UKRAINE (above).

Description
It is dedicated to the formation of the first Ukrainian military unit, formed on a volunteer basis, which was the beginning of the Ukrainianization of military units in the Russian army. The regiment participated in the armed resistance of the Ukrainian People's Republic of Russian aggression. The First Ukrainian Military Congress of 1917 supported the formation of the first Ukrainian military unit, demanding the enrollment of all 3,200 people enrolled in the regiment, and appointed Colonel Yuri Kapkan as commander. The creation of the First Ukrainian Regiment named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky was an important step on the way to the development of a new Ukrainian army.
