Ufa is a million–strong city, since 1922 it has been the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan. One of the largest economic, cultural and scientific centers of the Russian Federation. The city is one of the five largest cities in Russia by area. The city got its name in honor of the river of the same name.
The founding date of the city is considered to be 1574, when the Ufa fortress was built. In 1586 Ufa received the status of a city and became an important strategic, administrative, trade and economic center.
