Crocodile Gena is a puppet animated film released by the Soyuzmultfilm film studio in 1969 based on the book by Eduard Uspensky "Crocodile Gena and his Friends".
Gena the crocodile works as a crocodile in the zoo. He is kind, but very lonely, and so one day he decides to make friends. His ads, posted all over the city, respond to the girl Galya with a homeless puppy Tobik and Cheburashka-an animal unknown to science with large ears, who arrived in the city in a box of oranges.
The clumsy Cheburashka became so popular with the audience that the cartoon became a cult, and the Cheburashka itself gained popularity far beyond the borders of Russia.
The film is directed by Roman Kachanov and written by Roman Kachanov and Eduard Uspensky. Crocodile Gena was voiced by Vasily Livanov, Cheburashka by Klara Rumyanova.
