The obverse of the coin shows the building of the university (from the Botanical Garden) and placed: the inscription at the top of the semicircle UKRAINE, under which is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the year of the minting of the coin 2004, at the bottom - the nominal value 2 / GRIVNY (semicircle), the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine .

The portrait of Maksimovich (profile) is depicted on the reverse and there are inscriptions: on both sides in a semicircle - MIKHAIL (left) MAKSIMOVICH (right), below are the years of life - 1804-1873.

Maksimovich - a scholarly encyclopaedist, one of the founders of Ukrainian historiography, intellectual Ukrainian history and national botany, the author of the poetic translations `The Words of the Regiment Igorevim`, the first rector of Kiev University of St..
