"Hedgehog in the Fog" is a Soviet animated film directed by Yuri Norstein in 1975 at the Soyuzmultfilm studio. The work is based on the fairy tale story of the same name by Sergei Kozlov, which was significantly revised during the writing of the script.
The film tells about a Hedgehog who, getting lost in the fog on his way to visit a Bear Cub, finds himself in a mysterious world in which he meets an Owl, a Bat, a White Horse and other animals. The character and image of the main character is the secret of the success of this cartoon, as the viewer sees reflections of their experiences with him. "Hedgehog in the Fog" went beyond animation, turning into a philosophical parable with deep meaning.
Having conquered Soviet and world viewers, the cartoon acquired a cult status. In 2003, according to a survey of 140 film critics and animators from different countries, "Hedgehog in the Fog" was recognized as the best cartoon of all time.
