"The Scarlet Flower" is a Soviet full–length animated film created by director Lev Atamanov based on the fairy tale of the same name by Sergei Aksakov about an enchanted young man turned into a monster, and about a girl who returns his human form by the power of love.
The fairy tale itself was first published in 1858 as an appendix to the autobiography "The Childhood years of Bagrov-grandson". The first animated film adaptation of the fairy tale was released almost a century later, in 1952. The artist Leonid Shvartsman worked on the creation of images of heroes.
