Description
The collection of the Diamond Fund dates back to 1719, with the decree of Peter I. The badge with the portrait of Peter I is one of the first exhibits of the collection, awarded personally by the emperor for special services to the Fatherland and testified to his highest disposition. In picturesque portraits of representatives of the upper classes, you can often see a breastplate with a portrait of the reigning monarch. Such portraits were called "Personas". They appeared under Peter I and, being a grant from the hands of the emperor, were equated with orders. Such an award testified not only to special services to the state, but also to the personal disposition of the sovereign to the recipient. The cabinet ordered the masters to produce such portraits, often in rich frames. The badge with the image of Peter I dates back to the beginning of the XVIII century. The miniature is made by the famous enameler – portraitist G.S. Musikiysky. Only four such items have survived to this day.
