On the obverse of the coin in the center of the composition, formed by stylized images of four cross-shaped scrolls of paper against the background of horizontal lines, the small State Emblem of Ukraine is placed. On the scrolls of the inscription: UKRAINE at the top, at the bottom in two lines denomination of 20 UAH, on the left 1997 - the year of coinage, on the right are the designation and test of the precious metal Ag 925 and weight in purity 31.1.

On the reverse of the coin in the center, based on the drawing of M. Razheno, `The Facade of Starokievskaya Fortetsi` (1775-1786), there is an image of the Kiev Magistrate’s building in which the first contract fair took place. In the foreground - Podolskaya embankment on the side of the Dnieper and the moored two-masted ship. Above left is the image of scales. In a circle of inscriptions: above - KIEVAN CONTRACT FAIR, below - 200 years.
