On the obverse of the coin, an anchor and a steering wheel are shown on the left, against which is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, in the middle are horizontal symbolic waves, below and above which to the right of the anchor are inscriptions: as well as the designation of the metal and its sample - Ag 925, weight in purity - 31.1 (below); on the nickel silver coin - UKRAINE / 2004 (above), 5 / UAH (below). On both coins - the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The reverse of the coin shows an icebreaker among the boulders in the background - a ship in clear water and placed inscriptions: at the top in a semicircle - "CAPTAIN BELOUSOV", at the bottom on a mirror background horizontally - LEDOKOL.
Dedicated to the icebreaker, who for 50 years is paving the way for other ships and bears the name of the experienced polar captain, Hero of the Soviet Union Mikhail Prokofyevich Belousov (1904 - 1946).
