On the obverse of the coin at the top there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine, a semicircle inscription NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE, in a circle of beads depicts a church-necropolis, built above the scientist’s tomb, under which is the year of minting the coin 2010, FIVE CHERRY.

The reverse of the coin depicts a portrait of Nikolai Pirogov with surgical instruments in his hands, to the left are the years of life - 1810/1881, at the bottom a semicircle inscription - NICHOLAS PIROGOV.
