On the obverse of the coin, Earth is the cradle of humanity, above it is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription: UKRAINE, 2003 (semicircle at the top) 2 grivna (below), and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the reverse of the coin a portrait of V.I. Vernadsky (right) is placed; in a circle of coins there are circular inscriptions: Academician Vernadsky (left) and two-line years of life - 1863-1945.
