On the obverse of the coin, in a circle of beads, the composition is general for the series, embodying the national idea of ​​the Cathedral of Ukraine: along the small State Emblem of Ukraine are the coat of arms of the Archangel Michael and the crowned lion - symbols - the cities of Kiev and Lvov. Stylized inscriptions are placed around the composition, separated by images of griffins in the Baroque ornament: UKRAINE and 1998 (above), 20 griven (bottom in two lines) and the designation, test and weight of the metal.

On the reverse of the coin in a circle of beads on the background of an hourglass - a symbol of the heredity of time - the duel between the Zaporozhye Cossack and the Polish winged reiter is depicted. On both sides of the battle scene are the figures of horsemen - the helmsman of the national liberation movement of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and the singer of the heroic campaigns of the Cossack bandurist. A stylized inscription is placed around the composition: the liberation war of the mid-17th century.
