The reverse of the silver coin depicts the old part of the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The design is complemented by sailing boats, seagulls and a lighthouse, emphasizing the location of the city. The coin’s name “800 JAHRE HANSESTADT ROSTOCK” is minted along the circumference. Here are the initials of the designer.

On the edge of the coin in Latin, an inscription from a stone gate is engraved - Sit intra te Concordia publica et felicitas (“Unity of mind and social welfare prevail in your walls”).
