The obverse of the coin in the center shows the small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which are ornamental cartouches that are reproduced from the stucco molding of the main building of the university, the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine and the inscription: UKRAINE, 2000, 2 hryvnia.

On the reverse of the coin, the main facade of the university (architect J. Hlavki) and two lines of inscriptions are depicted in an arched doorway: Chernivtsi State University, 125 years old.
