Description
Dedicated to the research institute "Nikolaev Astronomical Observatory", one of the oldest observatories in Eastern Europe, founded in 1821 as a naval observatory in order to provide the Black Sea Fleet with time, maps and training of naval officers in astronomical methods of orientation. The history of the development of the Nikolaev Observatory is connected with the solution of an important problem in astronomy - the creation of the celestial fundamental coordinate system, which consists in the creation of a series of fundamental catalogs, which were the result of the collective efforts of the world's observatories, made on the basis of millions of individual observations and determination of the coordinates of stars for almost 200 years. The main activities of a modern institution are the study of objects in near-Earth space, the dynamics of bodies of the Solar system, the creation of astrometric catalogs of stars, information support for astronomical research and astronomical instrumentation.
