It is devoted to an important stage in the history of the development of domestic and international rocket science - the first launch of the Zenit-3SL launch vehicle (developed by Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, manufactured by Yuzhmash) from the Odyssey floating platform, which took place on March 28, 1999 and successfully demonstrated Launch capabilities of the Sea Launch rocket and space complex. The Sea Launch program is one of the most interesting and revolutionary international space projects of the late 20th century, which first realized the idea of using an offshore platform for space launches from the equatorial zone. This makes it possible to maximize the effect of the Earth's rotation and put into orbit a load of a larger mass with less fuel. The uniqueness of the Zenit-3SL launch vehicle is its environmental friendliness, which is extremely important today.
