Description
The history of Perm is counted from the beginning of the construction of the Egoshikhinsky copper smelter (May 4, 1723), the place for which – the log of the river Egoshikha – was chosen by Vasily Tatishchev. With the transfer in 1734 to the Egoshikha of the Perm lower mining authorities, arithmetic and verbal schools were opened in the village, which trained servants for state-owned mining plants, and a hospital. In 1735, roads to Solikamsk and Okhansk were laid from the plant, and a few years later the construction of the Siberian Highway began. All this strengthened the administrative and cultural significance of the plant and the settlement under it. In 1757-1764, the first stone buildings were erected: a stone church in the name of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul with a chapel of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine, a factory office, a manager's house and a guardhouse. On November 20, 1780, Empress Catherine II ordered the establishment of the city of Perm.
