On the obverse of the coin there are: at the top is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which - 2020, under the emblem - the inscription UKRAINE; in the center on a mirrored background - the coat of arms of the university, to the right and left of which there are icons inscribed in a circle with images symbolizing the faculties of the university; at the bottom - 2 UAH denomination and the logo of the Banknote-Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the reverse of the coin, on a mirrored background, there is a university building, above which there is an inscription -200 / years and a portrait of Nikolai Gogol (on the right), at the bottom there is an inscription: Nizhyn State / University / im. Nikolai GOGOL.

Dedicated to one of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine, founded at the expense of the brothers Alexander and Ilya Bezborodkov as a Gymnasium of Higher Sciences with the status of a higher educational institution of a university type. The university is renowned for its educational, scientific and cultural traditions; here many famous representatives of science and culture received higher education: N. Gogol, E. Grebenka, L. Glebov, Yu. Zbanatsky, E. Gutsalo and others.
