On the obverse of the coin in the center against the background of the ancient map of the starry sky posted an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine. In a circle at the top of the inscription UKRAINE, at the bottom in two lines 2 griven. On the right is the date 1997 - the year of coinage. All inscriptions are separated from each other by stylized images of stars.

The reverse of the coin depicts a portrait of the scientist and to his left the so-called `Kondratyuk highway` - a diagram of the flight of the spacecraft to the Moon, its landing on the lunar surface and returning to Earth. Above the portrait of Yu. Kondratyuk and to his left are the stylized images of stars, below the portrait are the dates of 1897-1942 - the years of the birth of the scientist and his death on the front near Moscow. In the circle of the inscription: at the top is YURI KONDRATYUK, at the bottom in brackets ALEXANDER SHARGEY.
