Description
For the significant contribution of the residents of the city to achieving Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, ensuring uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises, while showing mass labor heroism and dedication, Tomsk was awarded the honorary title of the Russian Federation "City of Labor Valor". During the war, Tomsk hosted and housed more than 30 evacuated enterprises and over 50,000 evacuated people. Two dozen Tomsk hospitals already in the first months of the war began to provide assistance to the wounded and during the years of the Great Patriotic War put more than 100 thousand people on their feet. Tomsk enterprises produced engines for tanks, airplanes and submarines, gas masks, sleepers, pressure gauges, binoculars, power and telephone cables. The match factory produced an incendiary mixture for anti-tank bottles. The Tomsk garment factory sewed tunics, soldiers' underwear, mittens and overcoats. Every fortieth mine fired at the enemy was made in the vicinity of Tomsk. And two thirds of the mines and shells recovered from the ground were discovered with the help of Tomsk mine detectors.
