Description
In the I century A.D., a new Northern Iranian ethnic group, the Alans, entered the historical arena on a rather vast area from the Aral Sea to the Danube. At the beginning of the X century, there was a wide penetration of Christianity into Alanya. Orthodoxy becomes the state religion in Alanya, mass Christianization of the population begins, the Alan Diocese of the Patriarchate of Constantinople is created. In the X–XI centuries, monumental domed temples were built. Baptism led to cultural and socio-economic flourishing, the spread of writing, and the growth of the political influence of the Alan state. Subsequently, it was this civilizational choice that determined the entry of Alania-Ossetia into the Russian Empire and the rapid integration of Ossetian society into the cultural and political space of Russia.
