Description
2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the domestic nuclear industry. On August 20, 1945, it was decided to form the First Main Directorate under the USSR Council of People's Commissars to manage the work on the atomic project. The Soviet nuclear industry was created in order to save the country and the whole world from new global conflicts. The nuclear shield ensured the country's security, and scientists and engineers were able to channel the energy of the atom into a peaceful channel. It was in our country that the world's first nuclear power plant, a nuclear icebreaker, and a tokamak fusion research facility were built. Today the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom", founded in 2007, is one of the ten largest Russian companies and operates in 50 countries of the world on 5 continents. Russian nuclear power plants provide almost a fifth of the country's electricity needs without polluting the atmosphere with greenhouse gas emissions. The nuclear industry remains at the forefront of science and technology. Rosatom not only constructs innovative new generation power units, but also develops the most progressive areas in other areas: supercomputers, composite materials, additive technologies, digital products, wind energy, nuclear medicine. The nuclear industry, ahead of its time, works for the benefit of the country and people.
