Description
Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya is the first woman to receive the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. When the war began, Zoya went to the front as a volunteer. The girl was a partisan, was part of a sabotage and reconnaissance group that was formed in the summer of 1941, and performed special tasks behind enemy lines. At that time, Joseph Stalin was instructed to use scorched earth tactics on a large scale, that is, to set fire to houses in settlements where the Germans were located in order to deprive the enemy of normal living conditions. It was exactly such tasks that Zoya received. In November 1941, a group of the sabotage brigade was given the task to commit arson in several villages. The group came under fire several times, some of its fighters died. As a result, there were only three people who could complete the task. Zoya was among them. On November 28, when the girl was setting fire to houses in the Fascist-occupied village of Petrishchevo, she was noticed and captured. Under torture, Zoya did not give out her real name, nor her fellow fighters, nor the essence of the task. Tormented by torture, an 18-year-old girl with a sign around her neck "Arsonist of houses" was executed by hanging in front of the whole village. In February 1942, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya became the first woman to receive the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
