Description
For the significant contribution of the residents of the city to achieving Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, ensuring uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises, while showing mass labor heroism and dedication, Izhevsk was awarded the honorary title of the Russian Federation "City of Labor Valor". Industrial enterprises of Izhevsk supplied the army with military equipment and equipment. During the war, Izhevsk factories gave the front more than 12 million small arms. The Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant organized the production of Degtyarev anti-tank rifles, Simonov anti-tank rifles, Tula Tokarev pistols, Nagan revolvers, lighting pistols and other small arms samples. Izhevsk is the only city in the USSR where all types of small arms were produced. Izhevsk workers improved the legendary Maxim machine gun of the Civil War. 90% of all frontline "Maxims" are from Izhevsk. The metallurgical plant carried out orders for the casting of different grades of steel, the production of parts for military equipment. Its products were received by 150 enterprises of the country. Izhevsk metal was used to forge projectile heads for Katyusha rockets and crankshafts for airplanes, to make springs for machine guns and anti-tank guns, shells of naval mines, to cast machine gun shields and gun barrels. In Izhevsk, from the first days of the war, many citizens volunteered to work at factories. The ranks of workers were replenished mainly at the expense of young people. In 1943, one in seven workers employed in industry had not yet reached their majority. About 2 thousand home front workers were awarded orders and medals of the Soviet Union for their labor feat. In December 1941, when the battle of Moscow was underway, by the decision of the State Defense Committee, the construction of the legendary Izhevsk–Balezino railway began, which connected the Perm and Kazan highways in the shortest way, improved the supply of military equipment and food to the front. The enterprises of the local industry produced sleds, skis, ski poles, cuttings for infantry and sapper shovels. The sewing factory, sewing workshops and artels of the Udmurtpromsoyuz switched to sewing military uniforms.
