Description

Obverse
The obverse of the coin depicts Harriet Tubman, who distinguished herself as the first woman to lead an armed expedition during the Civil War, the Combahee River raid, which resulted in the liberation of more than 700 enslaved people in South Carolina. In the background, two boats from the Civil War symbolize this campaign. The inscriptions on the obverse: "LIBERTY", "2024", "IN GOD WE TRUST", "HARRIET TUBMAN". The initials of the authors of the obverse are also indicated here - "DE" (designer Don Everhart) "RG" (sculptor Renata Gordon) and the mint mark.
Reverse
The reverse, in full-length, depicts Harriet Tubman with a telescope in her hands against the background of tents from the Civil War, which symbolizes her work as a scout and spy in the Union Army during the Civil War. Inscriptions are stamped around the circumference describing her contribution as a fighter for the abolition of slavery: "CIVIL WAR NURSE SCOUT SPY", "COMBAHEE RIVER RAID LEADER". The design is completed by the inscriptions: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR". The initials of the authors of the reverse are also indicated here - "TRH" (designer Thomas Hipschen) "JPM" (sculptor John P. McGraw)
