The Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation is a unified federal centralized system of bodies exercising, on behalf of the Russian Federation, supervision over the observance of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the implementation of laws in force on the territory of the Russian Federation. On January 12, 1722, in accordance with the Nominal Supreme Decree of Peter I to the Governing Senate, the Russian Prosecutor's Office was established. When creating the prosecutor's office by Peter I, it was tasked with "destroying or weakening the evil arising from disorder in business, injustice, bribery and lawlessness." As a result of legislative changes, the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation was formed structurally and functionally into an independent state body that is not part of any of the branches of government. Among the priority areas of activity of the prosecutor's office are the fight against crime and corruption, the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, ensuring the unity of the country's legal space.
