Ivanovo Region is an administrative–territorial unit in the European part of Russia, a subject of the Russian Federation, part of the Central Federal District. The region is located in the center of the European part of Russia. One of the smallest regions of Russia, only Kaliningrad is bigger.
The basis of the economic potential of the Ivanovo region consists of enterprises producing textiles and clothing. Mechanical engineering is the second most important industry in the region.
The region has a developed transport network. It is based on highways, railways, airlines, as well as the navigable Volga River.
The network of cultural institutions of the region is represented by 20 state and municipal museums, 4 theaters, philharmonic society, 639 cultural and leisure and library institutions, the state archive, the state circus of federal subordination.
The tourism industry is one of the most important resources for the development of the region.
