Rybinsk is the second largest city in the Yaroslavl region. In 1071, the first mention appeared in the chronicle of the settlement of Ust-Sheksna, located on the banks of the Volga, which became the predecessor of the city. Already in the XII – XIII centuries, trade developed here, and in the XVI century, the Fish Settlement supplied Volga fish to the Grand ducal, then to the royal table. It was one of the best fishing grounds where sturgeon were caught. There was one of the largest fish markets in the country. In the XVIII century, the Fish Settlement turned into the most important transshipment point on the Upper Volga, which created favorable conditions for the development of trade. The origin of the Rybinsk merchant class belongs to this period. During the administrative reform by the decree of Catherine the Second in 1777, Rybnaya Sloboda became the center of the county and was renamed the "city of Rybnaya". Modern Rybinsk is a large industrial center. The main types of products are aircraft engines, tractor diesels, snowmobiles, ATVs, ships for various purposes.
