Description
Alexander Sergeyevich Yakovlev (1906–1989) - Soviet aircraft designer, creator of the Yak fighters, including the most massive Yak-9 fighter of the Soviet Air Force during the Great Patriotic War, which entered service in 1942. The Yak-9 was developed on the basis of the Yak-7 fighter and had improved flight performance. The experience in the production and use of previous Yak family fighters, as well as the possibility of using aluminum elements that appeared by the middle of the war, significantly reduced the weight of the aircraft and improved its characteristics such as speed, climb and maneuverability, while maintaining the stability and ease of piloting inherent in all Yakovlev fighters . Improved combat capability of the Yak-9 allowed him to successfully confront German aircraft until the very end of the war. Yak-9 was used to cover the leading ground offensive and escorting attack aircraft and bombers. Thanks to the versatility and simplicity of the design of the aircraft, it became possible not only to establish its mass production in the shortest possible time, but also to create more than a dozen modifications capable of performing a variety of tasks.
