Alexander Vasilyevich Vishnevsky (1874-1948) was an outstanding Russian and Soviet surgeon, professor, founder of Russian neurosurgery, Doctor of Medical Sciences, full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. The winner of the Stalin Prize of the second degree. He founded a whole dynasty of famous surgeons, created a legendary ointment, developed new methods of anesthesia and treatment of purulent wounds in surgery. The author of the Vishnevsky Triad and more than a hundred other discoveries. Vishnevsky's triad includes three methods developed by him: local anesthesia using the creeping infiltration method, novocaine blockade and bandages with Vishnevsky ointment. The method involved filling tissues along the nerve with a weak solution of novocaine with the addition of adrenaline. Vishnevsky found that in addition to anesthesia, the anesthetic reduces inflammation and accelerates tissue repair. The anesthetic eliminates pain, and the ointment, which contains birch tar, xeroform and castor oil, prevents the development of pathological flora in the wound, has an irritating effect, which helps stimulate tissue healing. This method saved many lives during World War II, helping to successfully treat the wounds of soldiers.
